Geshe
Lhabu Dhondup is a particularly skilled teacher, whose many
years of teaching experience, coupled with his own contemplative
practice, enable him to distill the most essential elements
from the vast array of Buddhist teachings and present them
in the most accessible and applicable way. Geshe Lhabu was
born in the Tehor region of eastern Tibet in 1937. After
receiving his novice ordination at a very young age, he
pursued his initial training at the local monastery of Dhargye.
At age 17 he entered the famed Drepung Loseling Monastery
in Lhasa, and in 1959 he followed His Holiness the Dalai
Lama into exile in India, where he continued his spiritual
training and received his Geshe Lharam degree, the highest
degree of learning in Tibetan Buddhism, from Drepung Loseling
Monastery in 1989. He taught at the Central Institute of
Buddhist Studies in Ladakh from 1981-2002, and has taught
since then at Drepung Loseling Monastery. The Institute
is honored to have Geshe-la as its senior resident teacher
for 2006. |
