The venerable monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery will perform a combined puja to Green Tara and the White Umbrella (Dukkar) for protection, healing, and the removal of obstacles. We will also send heartfelt prayers for the good health and long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Green Tara is regarded as the embodiment of enlightened wisdom energy. The name “Tara” means “the liberator mother,” and she represents both nurturance and swift protection from danger, fear, and illness. She is called upon for success in career and livelihood, freedom from harm, good health, and auspicious circumstances.

The White Umbrella, known in Tibetan as Dukkar and in Sanskrit as Sitatapatra, is a powerful protectress whose white parasol shelters all beings. She is invoked to dispel negative influences, obstacles, and harmful forces, and to protect against illness, accidents, and calamities. Her practice is widely performed for peace and safety for individuals, families, and communities.

Together, the two practices offer a complete blessing: Green Tara’s compassionate activity to heal and bring success, and the White Umbrella’s sheltering protection to keep harm away.
