His Eminence Khen Rinpoche
Geshe Lobsang Samten,
Abbot of Drepung Loseling Monastery, India
Saturday August 13, 2022

10:00 am - 12:00 Noon EST

*In person only
We are pleased to offer this rare opportunity for our members and friends to establish spiritual connection with the Venerable Abbot of Drepung Loseling Monastery by receiving this empowerment.

Medicine Buddha is perhaps one of the most deeply cherished deities in the Buddhist world and is known as the “Medicine Master and King of Lapis Lazuli Light.” Upon achieving enlightenment, the Medicine Buddha vowed to relieve the suffering of sentient beings through the application of compassion and wisdom. He is often depicted as a seated blue Buddha holding a lapis jar of healing nectar and the stem of a medicinal plant.

The practice of Medicine Buddha is considered to be a powerful method for healing both the physical suffering of illness, poverty, and abuse, and the mental distress caused by anger, greed, and ignorance. The words “medication” and “meditation” both come from the same Latin root word, medeor, meaning “to heal or to make whole,” and meditating on the Medicine Buddha can support the journey to wellness by easing the physical and mental afflictions of ourselves or those for whom we are dedicating our practice. It is an excellent complement to conventional modes of healing and encourages the cultivation of positive mental states.
