Drepung Loseling Monastery, Inc. is pleased and honored to announce a return visit by His Eminence Khensur Rinpoche, Geshe Lobsang Samten, former abbot of Drepung Loseling Monastery, our six-hundred-year-old mother monastery, reestablished in India after the invasion of Tibet by the Chinese Communist regime. |

1000-Armed Avalokiteshvara Empowerment introduces the practitioner to the enlightened compassion of Avalokiteshvara in his thousand-armed, eleven-headed form. This form symbolizes boundless compassion and the ability to perceive and respond to the suffering of all beings in all directions. Each of the thousand arms has an eye in its palm, representing the union of wisdom and skillful means.

Receiving this empowerment grants the practitioner the permission to engage in the associated sadhana (meditation practice), often involving visualization, mantra recitation (such as OM MANI PADME HUM or the Great Compassion Mantra), and the cultivation of great compassion. It is especially revered for purifying negative karma, developing bodhicitta, and establishing a deep connection with Avalokiteshvara’s compassionate activity.

(Receiving the 1000 Armed Avalokiteshvara empowerment also fulfills a prerequisite for Drepung Loseling’s annual Nyung Ne retreat, a practice that originated with Bhikshuni Laxmi).
