Dr.
Tenzin Choedak was imprisoned by the communist Chinese government
for 21 years. Following his escape from Tibet in 1980, Dr. Tenzin
Choedak was appointed chief personal physician to His Holiness the
Dalai Lama and Director of Men-Tsee-Khang, the Tibetan Medical and
Astro Institute in Dharamsala. From 1984 on, Dr. Choedak participated
in medical conferences throughout Europe and the U.S., including
research programs at Harvard Medical School. He visited Drepung
Loseling Monastery, Inc., in 1998 to lead workshops on Tibetan Medicine
and receive patients for individual consultations. |

Dr.
Pema Dorjee is the most senior and renowned Tibetan physician practicing
today. Born in 1950 in Lhodak, Tibet, he fled with his parents in
1959 to India, where he completed his medical training. He has been
awarded many honors, including the Gold Medal and the Gem of Alternative
Medicine from the Indian Board of Alternative Medicine. He was elected
the first chairperson of the Menpa Lhentsog (Tibetan Medical Council)
and for three years served as General Secretary of Men-Tsee-Khang,
the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute, where he is currently Technical
Advisor to their Research and Development Department. He collaborates
on medical research projects around the world on the efficacy of
Tibetan medicine for treating chronic illnesses such as Hepatitis
C, leukemia, and other forms of cancer. He is the author of several
books and articles on Tibetan medicine, ,most recently “The
Spiritual Medicine of Tibet.”
Dr.
Dorjee has visited us five times, most recently in the fall of 2004
and the spring of 2006. During these last two visit, he participated
in symposia at Emory University on Mind-Body medicine. |

Dr.
Barry Clark is one of the few western practitioners of Tibetan medicine
and studied under Dr. Yeshe Donden, former personal physician to
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and under Dr. Pema Dorjee. He visited
us in August of 2003. |
