Building a Community of Compassion:
A Space for Meditation

Thursdays 6-7 pm

FREE and open to the public

Drepung Loseling, in conjunction with the Emory-Tibet Partnership, is pleased to create a space for weekly Compassion Meditation, Thursdays from 6 pm to 7 pm.

This is a space for those interested in coming together and practicing each week. Rather than a formal class this informal session is designed to allow community members to engage in personal practice and discussion, at all levels, in a group setting.

Each session will begin with a brief introduction of an essential aspect of cultivating compassion based on Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT), followed by 30 minutes of silent meditation, and concludes with an informal discussion period. CBCT is a multi-step meditation course based on Tibetan lojong, a mind training method for cultivating enduring and unbiased compassion. CBCT is intentionally secular and is aimed at developing key ingredients of compassion, such as mindful attention, self-awareness, impartiality, and gratitude – qualities that are valuable to much of contemporary society.

Practitioners of all levels and religious and contemplative backgrounds are welcome, whether new to meditation, new to compassion training, or simply seeking to deepen personal practice in community with others. Experience with CBCT is not required.

All sessions will be facilitated by Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi, who developed the CBCT course at Emory University, or one of the formally-trained CBCT instructors.
